I think you missed my point what Im tynrig to say is that you and others are setting up a false dichotomy. Hess, Rubinstein, Pollini, Uchida and many others before and since are proof enough for me that the poetry is there in the score, if the performer has the insight to bring it out. Fidelity to the composers ideas is not necessarily the same as a stuffy, unimaginative performance. Why play Chopin or Schumann at all if we dont care what they actually wrote down?
